Cosecha, Dominica Rice’s farm-to-table Mexican cafe, is located inside Old Oakland’s Swan’s Market. Rice has cooked with top chefs at restaurants including Chez Panisse. Cosecha recently started serving dinner Thursday through Saturday as well as a weekend brunch. The lunch menu features mostly tacos, quesadillas and tortas. The Blue Plate Special, two fish tacos with beans & avocado is $11.50 and quesadillas (squash blossom/epazote/oaxacan cheese, crimini mushrooms/oaxacan cheese, roasted yams/oaxacan cheese or grilled pasilla peppers/oaxacan cheese are all $7.75. The grilled chicken torta (sandwich) with chile guajillo sauce on a roll with guacamole, beans and tomato is $7.95, or $8.95 if made with beef or pork. Dinner specials include Albondigas (beef & pork meatballs in a chile ancho sauce) served with rice and beans at $15 and two shrimp tacos with beans and avocado at $12. For brunch, try the huevos cuauhtemoc (fried eggs over beans & salsa de arbol topped with avocado and served with handmade tortillas at $11.50 or the breakfast torta (bacon & egg sandwich on a Roll with avocado & tomato at $10.50.
