Brand new Local Cafe has opened on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland to rave reviews.  For now, Local Cafe is open Tuesday through Sunday for breakfast and lunch (7am-3pm), but has plans to expand hours to serve dinner in the near future.  The menu reflects the “local” philosophy featuring pastries, snacks, sandwiches and fresh salads made with quality ingredients and in-house preparations of granola, vinaigrettes, soups and meatballs.  Breakfast selections include housemade blueberry granola with organic yogurt and local honey ($6) and  poached farm eggs with prosciutto, toast and garlic ($8) and at lunch, you can choose between salads such as arugula with toasted almonds and pecorino cheese or little gems with blue cheese dressing and pickled shallots ($8 each) or sandwiches such as apple smoked bacon, tomato and avocado ($9) or egg salad with celery, capers and watercress ($8.50).  Local Cafe, 4395 Piedmont Avenue, near Pleasant Valley Avenue, Oakland 510.922.8249
