Mama’s Chicken Noodle is a new restaurant in Alameda that’s taken over a Kentucky Fried Chicken location. Owner Ngay Phung and her husband, John brought their chicken noodle soup recipe with them when they emigrated from China in 1980. They first served it 15 years ago at their Chinatown-style bakery in East Oakland. After selling the bakery, the family opened 11-year-old Legendary Palace in Oakland’s Chinatown and, now, Mama’s Chicken Noodle. Mama’s Special Chicken Noodle Soup ($7.99) is a large bowl of broth with your choice of noodles accompanied by shredded free-range chicken, fish cake, fish balls and meatballs. Rice Plates ($5.99) include a light vegetable soup, a vegetable of the day such as cabbage, bok choy or broccoli and your choice of protein, such as roasted duck. For an appetizer, try an order of wings, either spicy or the deep-fried, unbattered garlicky version (6 wings for $4.99). Mama’s Chicken Noodle, 1727 Webster Street, Alameda 510.865.1662
