Babette is a new restaurant located in the Berkeley Art Museum, open weekdays 8:00am – 4:30pm. Babette is run by local chefs Joan Ellis and Patrick Hooker, with a background as caterers and private chefs. Featuring a rustic, seasonal, locally sourced menu for museum visitors as well as other customers (accessed by a separate entrance on Durant Street). A Becker Lane bacon sandwich served with roasted red peppers, arugula, and aioli on a toasted Acme torpedo roll comes with a side of slaw, a bowl of mixed greens, pear slices, walnuts, and Point Reyes blue cheese is served with a house-made shallot/red wine vinaigrette and a savory tart is made from golden beets, olives, pine nuts, feta, and ricotta. Babette’s rotating menu features items like these, as well as sweets. Baked goods include a rosemary fig puff pastry, or a buttery apricot scone infused with masala spices. For breakfast, try a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich or steel-cut oatmeal with maple syrup, apricots, cranberries, and toasted pistachios.
