Origen

Origen, which means “from the source” in Catalan specializes in farm-to-table cuisine featuring a chef’s tasting menu ($39/five courses) with an optional five course wine pairing for an additional $18.  This is a very popular new restaurant located on Telegraph Avenue at Oregon.  You can also order a la carte from  “Nibbles” such as artisan cheeses ($12), crispy chicken & apple dumplings ($7.50) or flash fried spinach ($5).  Wood fired pizzas ($11-17) include broccoli with ricotta and chili flakes, duck sausage with fig spread and manchego, or mushroom.   Plates include paella of the day (A.Q.) and Lingcod ($16).  In the “Accoutrements” section of the menu, you’ll find seasonal market vegetable gratin ($7) and tricolor beets ($5).  Salads range from $7.50-$9.   Co-chefs Trace Leighton and Daniel Clayton also run the Fig Tree in Pleasant Hill.  Origen, 2826 Telegraph Avenue, Berkeley, 510.848-9200, www.origenberkeley.com
