Wednesday, May 22  6:30pm    Hike

Joaquin Miller Park, Oakland

This is a primarily flat, shaded 60 minute hike.  Directions: From Hwy. 13 in Oakland, take the Joaquin Miller Rd./Lincoln Ave. exit and go east (uphill) on Joaquin Miller Rd. to Skyline Blvd. and turn left.  Continue 0.3 miles on Skyline to a wooden fence on the left.  Park along the road (no lot), but be aware of “no parking” areas.  Wear hiking boots.  Notes: We’ll begin promptly at 6:30 to finish before dark.  Jogger strollers work well on this trail.

 

Friday, May 24   10:00am    Hike

Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve, Oakland

We’ll hike a moderately challenging 3.5 mile loop in this beautiful Redwood forest.  Directions:  Take Hwy. 24 east through the Caldecott Tunnel and take the Fish Ranch Rd. exit immediately after exiting the tunnel.  Turn right at the exit and follow the sign to “Sibley Old Tunnel Staging Area” straight ahead.  Park at the staging area; if full, there is additional parking to the right.  Note: This is a different meeting place than the Sibley Staging Area on Skyline Blvd.

 

Friday, May 31    10:00am    Stroller Walk

Lafayette-Moraga Trail

We’ll walk for 90 minutes on this mostly flat, paved trail.  Directions: From Hwy. 24, take the Orinda exit and turn right onto Camino Pablo, which soon becomes Moraga Way.  Follow Moraga Way for 5 miles until it ends and turn left onto Moraga Rd.  Turn right onto St. Mary’s Rd. and make an immediate left into the Moraga Commons parking lot.  Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at a nice playground here.

Friday, June 7    10:00am    Hike

Joaquin Miller Park, Oakland

We’ll hike a moderately difficult 4 mile loop with one steep climb.  Directions:  From Hwy. 13, take the Joaquin Miller Rd./Lincoln Ave. exit and go east (uphill) on Joaquin Miller Rd. 0.8 miles to the second Sanborn Dr. at the Woodminster Amphitheater entrance.  Park on Joaquin Miller Rd. and meet at the yellow gate by the Woodminster sign.  Wear hiking boots and feel free to bring a picnic lunch.

 

Monday, June 10    6:30pm    Hike/Stroller Walk

Lake Temescal, Oakland

Bring your family for a nice 60 minute hike on this easy trail circling Lake Temescal.  Meet at the south entrance of the park.  Directions: Take Hwy. 13 to the Broadway Terrace exit and proceed west (downhill) a very short distance to the parking lot entrance.  Notes:  The trail is part paved and part unpaved; jogger strollers work well.  We’ll begin promptly at 6:30 to complete the hike before dark.

Tuesday, June 11    6:30pm    Moms’ Night Out

Children’s Support League Dinner, Oakland

The Children’s Support League (CSL) is an all-volunteer organization of dedicated women who raise money to benefit local organizations that serve at-risk children.  If you’re interested in working with a great group of women to better our communities, come to this fun meeting and dinner to find out more about CSL.  RSVP to lee@eastbaymoms.com or 510-653-7867 by June 6th.  Details and directions will be sent to you. 

 

Friday, June 14    10:00am    Hike

Lone Oak Trail, Tilden Regional Park, Berkeley

This s a moderate 3 mile loop with some gentle hills.  After the hike, we’ll feed the animals at the nearby Little Farm.  Directions: From Hwy. 24 just east of the Caldecott Tunnel, take the Fish Ranch Rd. exit and go 1 mile uphill to Grizzly Peak Blvd. and turn right.  Proceed to South Park Dr. and turn right.  Turn left onto Wildcat Canyon Rd., right on Central Park Dr. and right onto Lone Oak Rd.  Park at the end of the road at the Lone Oak picnic area.  Wear hiking boots and bring a picnic lunch and lettuce or celery to feed the animals at the Little Farm.

 

Friday, June 21   10:00am   Stroller Walk

Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland

We’ll walk a one-hour loop through this beautiful, historic cemetery; the paved pathways include some hills.  Directions: From Hwy. 13, take the Thornhill Dr./Moraga Ave. exit and go west on Moraga Ave. to Pleasant Valley Ave. and turn right.  Proceed one short block to Piedmont Ave, and turn right.  Proceed to the end of Piedmont Ave., enter the cemetery and park near the fountain.  Feel free to bring a picnic lunch and blanket (no tables).

 

Tuesday, June 25    6:15pm    Family Night

Concert & Picnic, Orinda Community Park

Bring your entire family, a picnic dinner and blanket and enjoy a free Latin guitar world music concert performed by David Correa &CASCADA.  Directions: Take Hwy. 24 to the  Orinda exit and go north on Camino Pablo.  Turn right onto Santa Maria Way and left onto Orinda Way.  The park is on the right at 26 Orinda Way.  Note: The concert begins at 6:30, but parking fills up quickly, so it’s best to arrive early.

 

Friday, June 28  10:00am    Hike

Sea View Trail, Tilden Regional Park, Berkeley

This is a 5 mile, challenging loop.  Directions: From Hwy. 24, take the Fish Ranch Rd. exit just east of the Caldecott Tunnel.  Go about 1 mile to Grizzly Peak Blvd. and turn right.  Proceed to Lomas Cantadas Rd. and turn right, then immediately left.  Park in the upper gravel overflow parking lot.  Wear hiking boots and feel free to bring a picnic lunch.  We’ll ride the nearby Steam Trains after the hike.
