Sea View Trail, Tilden Regional Park, Berkeley
This is a 5 mile, challenging loop. Directions: From Hwy. 24, take the Fish Ranch Rd. exit just east of the Caldecott Tunnel. Go about 1 mile to Grizzly Peak Blvd. and turn right at the “Steam Trains” sign (Lomas Cantadas Rd.), then immediately left. Park in the upper gravel overflow parking lot. Wear hiking boots and feel free to bring a picnic lunch.

Tots Winter Carnival, Berkeley
This Winter Wonderland at the Live Oak Community Center features a Snowflake bean bag toss, tiny “sledding” hill, windy parachute games, winter obstacle course, prizes and refreshments. Admission is $2/tot. Live Oak Community Center is located in north Berkeley at 1301 Shattuck Avenue, in between Rose and Eunice Streets.

Kindergym with Dawn Margolin, Oakland
This class for children under 3 includes songs, parachute play and bubbles. Directions: From south of Grand Ave., take Hwy. 580 west to the Grand Ave. exit, turn right on Grand, go under the freeway, right on Euclid Ave., right on Van Buren and left on MacArthur. From Berkeley, take Hwy. 80 to Hwy. 580 east to the Harrison/Oakland Ave. exit. Follow the “Oakland” sign, then get in the right lane. At the bottom of the exit, go straight through the intersection, which is Perry St. and quickly becomes MacArthur. Kindergym is at Temple Beth Abraham,327 MacArthur Blvd. Park in the free lot to the right of the building and walk around to the red door at the front of the building. Marina Bay, Richmond
We’ll walk for 90 minutes on this flat, paved trail along the Bay. Directions: Take Hwy. 580 westbound to the Marina Bay Pkwy. exit and turn left onto Marina Bay Pkwy. Proceed a short distance to Regatta Blvd. and turn right. Turn left at the stop sign onto Melville Square and bear left into the parking lot. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch.

Redwood Regional Park, Oakland
We’ll hike a moderate 4.25 mile loop in this beautiful Redwood forest. Directions: From Hwy. 13 in Oakland, take the Joaquin Miller Rd./Lincoln Ave. exit and go east (uphill) on Joaquin Miller Rd. to Skyline Blvd. and turn left. Park along the right side of the road (no lot), where you see other cars parked, and walk down to the meeting area. Wear hiking boots and feel free to bring a picnic lunch.

ZooLights at the Oakland Zoo
Hundreds of thousands of LED lights brighten Oakland’s night sky. Highlights include a candy cane lane themed rides area, a night time adventure on the Outback Express train, rocking around the Christmas trees in the Children’s Zoo, and an amazing light show. Admission is $6/child and $7/adult for Zoo members and $7/child and $8/adult for non-members. Lone Oak Trail, Tilden Regional Park, Berkeley
This is a moderate 3 mile loop with some gentle hills. After the hike, we’ll feed the animals at the nearby Little Farm. Directions: From Hwy. 24 just east of the Caldecott Tunnel, take the Fish Ranch Rd. exit and go 1 mile uphill to Grizzly Peak Blvd. and turn right. Proceed a few miles to the stop sign at Golf Course Dr. and turn right. Make another right onto Shasta Rd. and turn left onto Wildcat Canyon Rd. Proceed to Central Park Dr. and turn right and make another right onto Lone Oak Rd. Park at the end of the road at the Lone Oak picnic area. Wear hiking boots and feel free to bring a picnic lunch and lettuce or celery to feed the animals at the Little Farm.
In case of rain during any Friday morning hike or stroller walk, we’ll meet at Studio Grow in Berkeley.
Studio Grow is an exciting, educational play space for children 0-6. Included with admission are 10:15am story time, 11am music time and 12pm parachute time. Directions: From Hwy. 80, take the Gilman St. exit and proceed east on Gilman to 10th St. and turn left. Studio Grow is on the right at 1235 10th. Admission is $9/person (children and adults); children under 1 and “extra” adults are free. Unlimited monthly passes are also available for purchase.
